All about Tarot
Today, I start this post with a short story.
Once upon a time, there was a man who moved to Shimla(India) just six months back. One day his friend came for a visit and they both decided to take a walk on the famous Mall Road.
As they were walking, the friend noticed that almost 90% of the people passing by were smiling and greeting the man. The friend was very impressed and confused as to how this man knew so many people in such a short time.
After the walk was over, the friend finally asked the man “How did you manage to make so many friends in just six months?” The man answered that when he came to Shimla, he would feel lonely while walking on the Mall Road. So one day he started smiling and greeting everyone who passed by. Initially people would not respond, then after few weeks some started smiling back. And finally after few months, people started greeting him even when he did not greet them.
The friend was impressed and asked the man “Why did you do it?” The man replied “To bring positivity in my life and feel happy”
The story ends here and gives us a glimpse of ‘The Sun’ tarot card. It asks us to take small steps to bring and spread positivity in our life. It reminds us that we can initiate happiness in our life rather than merely waiting for it to happen. And the question is:
What are you doing today to bring and spread positivity in your life?

Akbar-Birbal tales, this is the first thought that came to my mind when I picked the Justice card for this week. In India, these tales are known for the friendship and witty exchanges between King Akbar and his Minister Birbal. Here is a story that gives a glimpse into this card.
Once the mother of a soldier from Akbar’s army came to Birbal. The soldier had died in the battle and she told Birbal that it was becoming very difficult for her to earn money. So Birbal asked her to reach out to Akbar. However, the mother refused saying that she did not want any favours.
After giving some thought, Birbal asked her to bring an item for Akbar that is unique and Akbar, being generous would give money. The mother agreed as this would be an exchange.
After few days the mother gifted her son’s sword to Akbar and told him that it was the sword with which her son had fought till his last breath. Even though the sword was old and of no use, Akbar gave her five gold coins.
Now, Birbal did not believe this was a fair transaction. He took the sword and started looking at it from different angles. After few minutes of silence, Akbar asked Birbal why he was inspecting the sword. Birbal replied that whatever Akbar touched always turned into gold and so he was looking at the sword for gold. Akbar understood and immediately asked his men to give the mother gold coins equal to the weight of the sword.
The Justice card depicts a person with a sword in one hand and a scale in another. It reminds us of being fair. So when we start a project or exercise regime our result will always be proportional to our efforts.
Here is the question: Where in your life do you need more/less effort?
Next: How to be happy?
The Lovers card signifies the love that binds two people. In the simplest form it is about committing to a relationship- whether through marriage or partnership.
The interesting interpretation of the card is that it uses “Love” as a motivational tool to overcome challenges.
This motivational aspect is seen when a person chooses his/her passion as a profession. Another example is of couples who commit to loving each other despite difference in perspectives, cultures and habits.
The choice is yours and the question to ask yourself is:
“How to use love as motivation to overcome challenges?”
The chariot card reminds me of the story of Lord Krishna in The Mahabharta.
The epic war of Mahabharta was fought between first cousins, Pandavas and Kauravas. Lord Krishna was Arjuna’s charioteer in the war.
Now, why do you think Lord Krishna became the charioteer?
Arjuna was the best warrior in the Pandavas team. However, Arjuna was also emotionally vulnerable when it came to fighting his cousins and Gurus from the Kauravas team. Lord Krishna knew about this vulnerability and wanted to guide Arjuna in the right direction whenever Arjuna felt emotionally weak. Lord Krishna’s teachings to Arjuna on the chariot is the holy book of “Bhagwad Gita“.
The way Lord Krishna directed Arjuna to the path of victory is the essence of The Chariot tarot card. The Chariot tarot card enables you to give a new direction to your life. It encourages you to direct the horses to the path of your choice. It is not going to be easy, but with balance and wisdom you can get victory. Here is a question for you: Where do you want to go from here?

Tarot Card Meaning
Do you remember ‘He-Man’? A super hero TV series in the eighties.
The story of He-Man was about a simple guy who would raise his sword and say “By the power of the universe..”. Lightning would struck his sword and he would get super powers. He would then embark on the quest to solve a problem and save the world- the sword always by his side.
The Ace of Swords card reminds me of He-Man’s sword. The sword that gave He-Man the power to cut through confusion and bring clarity. It could be clarity of thought or leaving the past behind. The focus is on removal of things, relationships and thoughts that are of no use.
An example is of the unused clothes, shoes , or books in our room. We know that we will never wear some of the clothes/shoes or read our school/college books, but still we let these items fill up space. So start clearing your room. When the clutter is removed, there is space for positive energy. You may even find an old book that would give you new idea.
Another example is to clear your work area and you may find notes taken when you just joined/started the company. These notes may give you the clarity to solve challenges.
So, the question is:
In which area of your life (relationship, career, health or finance) do you need clarity?

As we approach International Women’s Day on March 8, I take this opportunity to talk about the Tarot Court cards representing feminine personalities. The four Queen Cards- Queen of Cups, Queen of Wands, Queen of Pentacles and Queen of Swords. I will talk about each of these cards through four posts.
What is your personality or of the woman in your life.
Queen of Cups
While flipping through the entertainment channels, I came across a news about a party thrown by a very wealthy industrialist family. The news clip was about the famous people attending the party. Suddenly, the lady who was hosting the party came out and invited the paparazzi to eat dinner. This gesture of the lady is a true example of the Queen of Cups Woman.
A sensitive and caring woman, the Queen of Cups takes decisions based on her emotions and empathy. She has a great power to understand the emotions/feelings of the people around her. Her home is full of colourful and vibrant artistic pieces giving an insight into her creative side. Some professions where Queen of Cups would flourish are caretaking, social service, play schools, theatre, dance, and painting. Some of the women that I believe would be Queen of Cups are: Shabana Azmi, Nita Ambani, Meg Ryan, and Oprah Winfrey.
Queen of Pentacles
I love drinking fresh Coconut water. It is tasty, cools the body, and is available just outside my home. Now, what is the connection between coconut water and Queen of Pentacles. It is the lady who sells the coconut water.
Here is our conversation when I went to buy it.
Me: How much is the cost of coconut?
Me: Is it? I have bought it for ₹25 earlier.
Lady (Blank Expression) and after a pause.
Lady: Ok. I will give it for ₹25.
Me: I have ₹500 and no change. Do you have change for ₹500?
The lady gives me a blank expression and starts to cut the coconut. I am waiting anxiously.
Lady: I will give you change if you buy two.
Me (Totally shocked): Are you sure? You have the change for ₹500.
She hands me two coconuts and the change for ₹500 with a smile.
End of the conversation.
The Queen of Pentacles is practical and business minded. She is a good negotiator and knows how to come up with a win-win solution for her customers. She likes to enjoy good things in life. Her strength is in converting ideas into reality.
Queen of Swords
ख़ूब लड़ी मर्दानी , वो तो झाँसी वाली रानी थी
The above lines of a heroic poem that many of us have learned in India summarises the personality of Queen of Swords.
This heroic poem is about the courage shown by Rani Laxmibai, Queen of Jhansi. She fought fearlessly against the British Raj for independence of her city. She knew horse riding and the art of fighting with swords. She instilled courage in the people of her city and inspired them to fight for freedom.
In today’s world, Queen of Swords is an assertive person, who does not shy away from telling the truth. She is very intelligent and understands the politics around her. However, she will stay away from it until it threatens the safety and security of her and her loved ones. You will find her standing up for a social cause, being a political leader or leading a big organisation. Few woman that I believe would be Queen of Swords are Menaka Gandhi, Ekta Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Angelina Jolie and Malala Yousuf.
Queen of Wands
“I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I am not afraid to look behind them. ” – Elizabeth Taylor
The above quote by Elizabeth Taylor is the true spirit of Queen of Wands. In fact, I believe Elizabeth was herself Queen of Wands.
The Queen of Wands person is energetic, creative, ambitious and adventurous. She is always on the lookout for the next challenge. She will be the life of all parties and has many many friends. She is a great at balancing her work and family. She would have an active career in the field of technology, services or education. She is tech savvy, who picks up new technologies very easily. Some of the women that I believe could be Queen of Wands are Priyanka Chopra, Melinda Gates, Lara Dutta, and Daniel Steele.
