Exploring Tarot Cards: The Moon

IMG_0671

The doorbell rang.

Khushi ran with an amazing speed to open the door. She was anxiously waiting to know if she got admission in her favourite university.

The postman handed her the envelope that had her name on it. It was from her favourite university. Her hands were trembling with excitement. She thanked the postman and closed the door. Chanting a little prayer, Khushi opened the envelope and saw the best sentence in the world.

‘Congratulations Khushi, you have been selected for the 2017 batch of Masters in Fashion Designing.’

Khushi jumped with excitement and ran to tell her parents and brother. They were all very excited. She had secured a scholarship too.

As the week went by, Khushi and her parents shared the news with their friends and relatives. Soon, Khushi started hearing concerns from some of her friends and well wishers. She was asked questions such as “How will you live alone in a new country?”, “Would you feel lonely as you have no friend in that university?”, “What about your safety?”, and “Why can’t you do Fashion Designing course here?”.

These questions were all valid, but they made Khushi very sad and she started doubting her decision to go to her favourite university. She started having sleepless nights, delayed the tasks that had to be done to complete admission formalities, avoided sharing her news with more friends. She would stay awake at night due to the fear of unknown.

Her brother, Anuj was the first one to notice the change in Khushi’s behavior and decided to talk to her about it. As Khushi shared the concerns raised by some people and her fears, Anuj asked her to do two things.

  1. Write down all her fears on a sheet of paper and against each fear write what she could do to overcome it or make it easy for her.
  2. Read the answers she had written in the University Interview Questionnaire.

While Khushi was listing her fears and their remedy, she realised that these were simple things. Next, she read the answers from the University Interview Questionnaire. It reminded her why she wanted to go to her favorite university.

The next day, Khushi woke up fresh and with full enthusiasm to join her favorite university. Her smile was back!

The story finishes here.

The Moon card talks about your commitment to making your goals a reality. It gives you challenges and tests your ability to overcome the fear of unknown. Like the scorpio in the card, its upto you to either abandon the goal or continue towards your goal.

The quote by Henry Ford summarizes the card very well: “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”

Ask yourself:

  • What is your fear in achieving your goal?
  • How can you prepare for or overcome the fear?

Exploring Tarot Cards: King of Swords

Let me tell you one of the stories of Chanakya, the renowned teacher, strategist and political advisor to Chandragupta Maurya ( A powerful king in Indian History). Chanakya’s teachings are famously known as “Chanakya Niti” and are relevant even today in dealing with challenges of life.

Once an acquaintance met Chanakya excitedly and said “Chanakya, I have something to tell you about your friend.

Before the acquaintance could continue , Chanakya asked him three questions.

1) Are you sure that what you are going to tell me is the truth? The acquaintance said no, I overheard it from someone else.
2) Is this news telling me something positive about my friend? The acquaintance said no.
3) is this information of use to me? The acquaintance again said no.

Thus, Chanakya said that if the information is not true, not positive and of no use to me then I don’t want to hear it.

The story ends here.

The King of Swords represents a person with personality traits of Chanakya- being articulate, clear and using his/her judgement to avoid petty politics.

Exploring Tarot Cards: Ace of Pentacles

Before you read the story of the Ace of Pentacles, look at the card and write your first thought.AP

Now, lets dive into the story.

Shanti is a farmer who has two fields in which she grows sugercane. She has been selling  sugarcane in the village market for over 15 years and is happy with her earning.

She has two kids (twins)- Rani, her daughter and Raja, her son – who are  now in high school. Shanti gives both of them pocket money every day and observes:

  • Rani puts half of her pocket money immediately in her piggy bank
  • Raja takes the full pocket money to school and if any pocket money is left, then puts in the piggy bank at the end of the day

This goes on everyday for a month. Finally, one day Shanti decides to share her observation with her kids and asks them to come with their piggy banks.

Shanti: How much money have you got in your piggy bank, Rani?

Rani ( feeling proud): Rs 1000

Shanti:And in your piggy bank Raja?

Raja (a bit anxious): Rs. 1000

Shanti: Rani, why do you immediately put half of your money in the piggy bank?

Rani: So that I can spend more in the future. If I save some money today, I will have more amount to spend tomorrow and even more the day after tomorrow. Even if you don’t give me money tomorrow, I will still have some money.

Shanti: And Raja, why do you put the money at the end of the day in your piggy bank?

Raja: Because, for me money is for today and I donot want to restrict myself. If I am able to put something in the piggy bank, I do. Otherwise, I know that the next day, I will get pocket money.

Shanti smiled.

The story ends here.

The Ace of Pentacles card gives you an opportunity to earn money but asks us “How will you use the money to feel secure?”

Will you keep it as cash to spend anytime? Will you keep it in the bank for future? Will you invest the money for long term gains?

The question to ask yourself is:

What would you like to do today to make yourself feel financially secure?

Exploring Tarot Cards: The Golgappa Story

What is #Golgappa? It is a crispy fried snack filled with vegetable mix and tamarind water. Also known as Pani puri and Puchka.

“There are 8 golgappas per plate”: exclaimed Priya

“Yes mam”: said the vendor

All the four friends went silent and looked at each other.

Here is what happened.

3COn Friday evening, Priya and her three friends decided to have golgappas.  Each took one plate and the vendor gave them one piece at a time. They were talking, commenting on the golgappa, and eating happily.

3S

After eating a few golgappas, Priya asked the vendor how many pieces were there in one plate. The vendor told them 8 pieces. All of them went silent. Finally, Shreya said that usually a plate has 5 or 6 pieces and 8 was too much for her.

3P

They had already eaten 4 golgappas each. So, they  started thinking of ways to ensure that the vendor does not loose money and they do not overeat. Shreya and Ahana said they didn’t want more golgappa. Priya said that she could have 4 more but then Kriti would also need to have 4 golgappas.

3W

Kriti was listening to all and said if all of us have had 4 golgappas each, which adds up to two plates (8 per plate). So, why don’t we share one more plate. The vendor smiled and agreed. Everyone was amazed at Kriti’s clarity of thought and perspective. They all agreed and enjoyed their golgappas.

The moral of the story is:

  1. Check the facts before getting into an agreement.
  2. Be ready to customize to create a great experience for clients.
  3. Brainstorming is the key to problem solving.
  4. Think as a team versus individual.

TarotSpeak: Each tarot card in this post corresponds to the paragraph against it. The four cards used are #3ofcups, #3ofswords, #3ofpentacles and #3ofwands. They all represent the number 3 cards in the #minorarcana signifying different aspects of growth.

Knight of Swords

We are going into mercury retrograde tomorrow and you should keep that in mind. The way universe tests our decision is to by giving us unexpected twists and turns in our journey. Some of those twists can be overcome by going full speed with the solution, while other twists solve on their own if we just give them time. Today, let things solve or settle on their own.
