There are always situations in our life when we have an idea or solution and are still struggling to find ways to make it a reality. During these times, the best approach is to take advice from a calmer and mature person who you trust. The person could be your parent, aunt, tarot reader, guru or leader. The key difference between this person and any other elder in your life is that you trust this person to keep your conversation confidential.

Tarot Card Meaning

Exploring Tarot Cards: Judgement

Remember the story of the Hare and the Tortoise. Over the years the lesson learned from the story has been changing. During my school days I thought that of course “the slow and steady wins the race” is the lesson from the story and the Tortoise won the race. However, in today’s fast paced life, I tend to think that the lesson from the story is “not all races are meant to be won, collaboration is more important”. Imagine a scenario where the Hare realised that his health would deteriorate if he continued to run and therefore took the required rest.  Just when the Tortoise saw the Hare, instead of continuing with the race, if the Tortoise had stopped and checked on the Hare. And finally, both of them would have won the race together helping each other. img_0649 The Judgement card enables us to look at different ways to judge ourselves and the people in our life. It gives us a chance to use empathy in judging others, putting ourselves in other’s shoes and being compassionate. When we feel angry at not getting through the job or scold our children for poor marks, are we taking ourselves too seriously. The question asked by the card is: In which area of our life are we too harsh on ourself and others?

Exploring Tarot Cards: Ace of Swords

Do you remember ‘He-Man’?  A super hero TV series in the eighties.

The story of He-Man was about a simple guy who would raise his sword and say “By the power of the universe..”. Lightning would struck his sword and he would get super powers. He would then embark on the quest to solve a problem and save the world- the sword always by his side.

The Ace of Swords card reminds me of He-Man’s sword. The sword that gave He-Man the power to cut through confusion and bring clarity. It could be clarity of thought or leaving the past behind. The focus is on removal of things, relationships and thoughts that are of no use.

An example is of the unused clothes, shoes , or books in our room. We know that we will never wear some of the clothes/shoes or read our school/college books, but still we let these items fill up space. So start clearing your room. When the clutter is removed, there is space for positive energy. You may even find an old book that would give you new idea.

Another example is to clear your work area and you may find notes taken when you just joined/started the company. These notes may give you the clarity to solve challenges.

So, the question is:

In which area of your life (relationship, career, health or finance) do you need clarity?

Womens Day Special: Queen Cards

As we approach International Women’s Day on March 8, I take this opportunity to talk about the Tarot Court cards representing feminine personalities. The four Queen Cards- Queen of Cups, Queen of Wands, Queen of Pentacles and Queen of Swords. I will talk about each of these cards through four posts.

What is your personality or of the woman in your life.

Queen of Cups

While flipping through the entertainment channels, I came across a news about a party thrown by a very wealthy industrialist family. The news clip was about the famous people attending the party. Suddenly, the lady who was hosting the party came out and invited the paparazzi to eat dinner. This gesture of the lady is a true example of the Queen of Cups Woman.

A sensitive and caring woman, the Queen of Cups takes decisions based on her emotions and empathy. She has a great power to understand the emotions/feelings of the people around her. Her home is full of colourful and vibrant artistic pieces giving an insight into her creative side. Some professions where Queen of Cups would flourish are caretaking, social service, play schools, theatre, dance, and painting. Some of the women that I believe would be Queen of Cups are: Shabana Azmi,  Nita Ambani, Meg Ryan, and Oprah Winfrey.

Queen of Pentacles

I love drinking fresh Coconut water. It is tasty, cools the body, and is available just outside my home. Now, what is the connection between coconut water and Queen of Pentacles. It is the lady who sells the coconut water.

Here is our conversation when I went to buy it.

Me: How much is the cost of coconut?

Lady: ₹35

Me: Is it? I have bought it for ₹25 earlier.

Lady (Blank Expression) and after a pause.

Lady: Ok. I will give it for ₹25.

Me: I have ₹500 and no change. Do you have change for ₹500?

The lady gives me a blank expression and starts to cut the coconut. I am waiting anxiously.

Lady: I will give you change if you buy two.

Me (Totally shocked): Are you sure? You have the change for ₹500.

She hands me two coconuts and the change for ₹500 with a smile.

End of the conversation.

The Queen of Pentacles is practical and business minded. She is a good negotiator and knows how to come up with a win-win solution for her customers. She likes to enjoy good things in life. Her strength is in converting ideas into reality.

Queen of Swords

ख़ूब लड़ी मर्दानी , वो तो झाँसी वाली रानी थी

The above lines of a heroic poem that many of us have learned in India summarises the personality of Queen of Swords.

This heroic poem is about the courage shown by Rani Laxmibai, Queen of Jhansi. She fought fearlessly against the British Raj for independence of her city. She knew horse riding and the art of fighting with swords. She instilled courage in the people of her city and inspired them to fight for freedom.

In today’s world, Queen of Swords is an assertive person, who does not shy away from telling the truth. She is very intelligent and understands the politics around her. However, she will stay away from it until it threatens the safety and security of her and her loved ones. You will find her standing up for a social cause, being a political leader or leading a big organisation. Few woman that I believe would be  Queen of Swords are Menaka Gandhi, Ekta Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Angelina Jolie and Malala Yousuf.

Queen of Wands

“I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I am not afraid to look behind them. ”  – Elizabeth Taylor

The above quote by Elizabeth Taylor is the true spirit of Queen of Wands. In fact, I believe Elizabeth was herself Queen of Wands.

The Queen of Wands person is energetic, creative, ambitious and adventurous. She is always on the lookout for the next challenge. She will be the life of all parties and has many many friends. She is a great at balancing her work and family. She would have an active career in the field of technology, services or education. She is tech savvy, who picks up new technologies very easily. Some of the women that I believe could be Queen of Wands are Priyanka Chopra, Melinda Gates, Lara Dutta, and Daniel Steele.

Happy Fathers Day

KWKing Of Wands: An energetic and enthusiastic father. He is always encouraging you to do your best. No idea is small or not worth trying. He is very confident. An ideal gift for him would be a novelty like a tarot reading session. KPKing Of Pentacles: A calm and practical father. He is always encouraging you to be down-to-earth. He is a self-made man. An ideal gift for him is Unbox 2020, book on Fortune.
KCKing Of Cups: A sensitive and smiling father. He is always encouraging you to build relationships and make new friend. He is very articulate- good with expressing his thoughts. Exploring Tarot Cards – Five of Cups

5CTears are rolling down Aditi’s face. She is eating her favorite ice cream and watching a comedy movie.

She realizes that the movie has not made her cry, but her tears would not stop. She switches off the TV and moves to the balcony.

Overlooking the beautiful blue ocean, Aditi starts thinking that she has come a long way in a short span of 3 months. From being a creative, happy, and energetic person always surrounded with friends, she is now standing alone in her balcony with tears in her eyes.

Travelling to a new country for higher studies was Aditi’s decision. She had worked really hard to get admission in this university. Her parents were not very keen, but they did not stop her. They believed in her dreams.

The first month was like a dream- the city, college, professors, and students. She even got accommodation with a view of the ocean. It was perfect!

In the second month, Aditi started missing her home cooked food, street food, and friends. She even missed the crowds. Her classmates in the university invited her to various parties, but she refused everytime thinking it would not be the same as back home.

Aditi’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her mobile phone. Her best friend Shikha was calling her from their hometown. With a heavy heart and smile on her face, Aditi told the entire situation to Shikha.

Shikha listened to Aditi and told her that she is in the same situation. Shikha mentioned how she is always busy visiting relatives and did not have time for herself. Shikha wished she had opportunity to assist professors in reasearch.

Aditi could not take it anymore and she blasted Shikha about not looking at positive aspects of her life – food and friends. Shikha was silent. In a hurtful voice, Shikha told Aditi that she was also doing the same thing.

They both ended the call promising each other to look at positive aspects.

The story ends here.

The Five of Cups Tarot card asks us to look at the positive aspects in any situation. It tells us that it is ok to feel sad about the things we miss or don’t like. But, in the end we need to choose positivity.

Question to ask yourself:

What positive aspects of your current life are you ignoring?

What Do You See?

What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you see this image?

Did you notice the flower or the dog?

Did you notice the cliff?

The answers lie in your sub-concious and un-concious thoughts.  And Tarot is a medium for you to bring your thoughts the surface.

Each symbol on the tarot card has a meaning and when you are attracted by a symbol then that is the key meaning for you of the card.

For example, if the first thing that you noticed  was the positive attitude of the person, then it would suggest that you are feeling positive about the situation. If you noticed the dog in the picture, it would suggest that you are aware of your friends and well-wishers who are trying to warn you of the danger of the cliff.

This study of signs and symbols to get meanings out of them and communicate through them is known as Semiotics. And to me, the visual and cognitive semiotics is the science behind Tarot.

What are your thoughts?
